Toronto’s tech employment has grown by 54% in the past five years alone, and employed more than 200,000 people in 2018. The occupations that saw the greatest increase in employment include those in computer support, database and systems, software developers and programmers, and tech engineering-related fields. The average wage of workers in these positions is $81,828 CAD.

The province of Ontario has begun conducting draws exclusively to workers with experience in one of six designated tech occupations. The first draw of its kind occurred just one week ago, and saw the largest number of invitations issued in the program’s history. Candidates receiving an invitation through this draw are invited to apply for permanent residence in Canada, allowing them to work and live anywhere in the country for as long as they want.
