TORONTO RANKED THIRD IN NORTH AMERICAN CITIES FOR TECH TALENT AND OPPORTUNITY

The city of Toronto has seen exceptional growth in the technology sector in recent years. This has been confirmed by the release of a study placing Toronto third overall for tech talent and opportunity in North America, coming out ahead of major cities like Washington, New York and Boston.

Canada’s most popular and diverse city, Toronto receives more newcomers than any other in the country. In 2017, the city became the fastest-growing tech-jobs market in North America, and continues to draw international talent each year. With thousands of jobs being created each month, and unemployment seeing record lows, skilled newcomers continue to fill the demands of Toronto’s thriving tech sector.

Toronto Demanding Tech Workers in 2019
Toronto’s tech employment has grown by 54% in the past five years alone, and employed more than 200,000 people in 2018. The occupations that saw the greatest increase in employment include those in computer support, database and systems, software developers and programmers, and tech engineering-related fields. The average wage of workers in these positions is $81,828 CAD.

International workers who can prove experience in these fields sit in an excellent position to be in-demand across Canada, and to receive an invitation to apply for Canadian permanent residence.

Taking the First Step: Determining Your NOC Code
The Canadian immigration system uses a National Occupation Classification (NOC) code to determine the work experience of an applicant. Many immigration pathways target candidates with certain NOC codes to meet the current economic needs of the province or country.

Determining your accurate NOC code can be the first step in finding immigration pathways targeting your profile. For those with NOC codes in tech-related fields, now is an excellent time to apply.

Ontario Tech-Specific Draws
The province of Ontario has begun conducting draws exclusively to workers with experience in one of six designated tech occupations. The first draw of its kind occurred just one week ago, and saw the largest number of invitations issued in the program’s history. Candidates receiving an invitation through this draw are invited to apply for permanent residence in Canada, allowing them to work and live anywhere in the country for as long as they want.
